FAQ

The treatment is well-tolerated as most customers describe it as relatively painless. The tolerance level for pain varies from individual to individual. You may feel a slight tingling or pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band.

Sessions can last from a few minutes to more than an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. It takes two to five minutes to treat upper lips/underarms. For larger body parts, such as legs, it will take between 10 and 20 minutes. (Including shaving! Our shaving service is FOC)

The number of treatment sessions required depends on several factors such as on the area being treated, skin type and colour, hair thickness and density, and your hair’s growth cycle. Several treatments are necessary to achieve the best result. Our consultants will perform a pre-treatment skin check and advise you on the necessary number of treatments.

All body areas can effectively be treated except over skin lesions of infection, tattoos and the area adjacent to the eye.

Sun tanning is to be avoided before the treatment as any amount of sun tanning will make the treatment less effective. Tanning is also to be avoided immediately after treatment as the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light. It is recommended to use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen after the treatments and avoid sun-exposure as much as possible. Cosmetics can be applied to the treated areas such as face. Additionally, as SHR targets the pigment, melanin in the hair follicle, any waxing, tweezing and electrolysis should be avoided prior to the treatment. The area to be treated may be shaved one day before treatment.

The appearance of the treated area immediately following the treatment varies from person to person depending on the area being treated and skin type. There may be some redness around the treated hair follicles which typically disappears within hours.

With one of the latest technologies available for hair removal, SHR
treats all skin tone to get rid of unwanted hair with more effective results. It can be used to treat unwanted hair on all skin types and colour. Although fairer skin makes the procedure easier to perform as fewer treatments are required, and better, and faster results are obtained. Fair skin with dark hair colour responds the best to the treatment as the darker pigmentation of the hair follicle absorbs more light energy than the pigment in the surrounding skin. Individuals with darker skin tone can be treated but results are slower and more sessions are required. Individuals with sensitive skin can be reassured as the treatment is gentle on the skin and a skin examination will be conducted prior to treatment.

SHR can achieve a permanent reduction of hair growth by destroying most of the targeted hair follicles. Some individuals will get complete hair reduction with no re-growth, while others will require a yearly maintenance treatment. However, the re-growth of hair tends to be lighter and finer in texture.

Subsequent sessions are scheduled when the hair starts to regrow. The timing for this can range from 8 to 12 weeks, depending on hair type and the part of the body being treated. On average, we recommend appointments to be scheduled 8 to 12 weeks apart for best results.

The heat kills the hair roots but the hairs remain in the skin and often become attached to the epidermis. The hair will fall out after 1-3 weeks as the epidermis renews itself.

No, the same price applies to the same area. However, there might be differences in the number of sessions required for treatment.

Individuals with suntanned skin cannot achieve the desired results as the dark pigment absorbs more light energy in their skin than the hair. The hair follicles thus are not being destroyed. We recommend customers with tanned skin to wait until their tan fades before they can be treated.

The treatment will not harm the fetus or the mother during pregnancy. However, there is a possibility that pregnant or lactating women cannot obtain satisfactory results due to hormonal changes. We recommend having the treatment only after birth or when menstruation reoccurs.
